I have never wanted children. When I was a child, I played with stuffed animals, I never played "baby" with any dolls. I have said as long as I can remember that I do not want children. People still tell me "you will change your mind". What makes them think this? Why is it so hard to accept that some people just do not want children?

julianna1025 - that is one of the most ignorant answers I have ever read. I am not sterile, but I have no desire to have children.

I think females sometimes think they are not fulfilling their roles as women unless they have children. The real problem is in countries where having children especially boys insures that you will be taken care of in your old age. These women want as many children as possible and this is becoming a world problem.

Perhaps they're projecting their desires onto you. Or perhaps they think you're like most of the women they know. Or perhaps they're a bit dismayed by the idea that their life choices aren't "good enough" for you.

Personally, I think it's unselfish to make a considered decision before bringing another person into this world, and selfish to guilt someone into making themselves and another whole little person miserable.

I never played with baby dolls - I had action figures. I don't even like children.

It's one of those things thats ingrained in society. Your roll must be to breed as often as possible (but not too often). Tis rubbish.

It's old myths and messages form moms and family for centuries.
As the female were the baby machine it naturally was assumed it was her duty to want and have children by God's will. many people still follow that reasoning because they heard it from their elders and their elders heard it from theirs and so on until it's an accepted statement as fact when it isn't.

Men expect it. We woman are breeders. The same goes for marriage. My old grandparents have this delusion I'll be married someday. As for as I'm concerned marriage is a bunch of crap. Plus I have higher expantations. So far the only guys who like me are weirdo's. Yuck. I'm not gonna settle for one of them. So we are in silmilar bubbles.
Oprah Winfrey herself has no desire for children. Use that as a point in a discussion.

Probably because the need and want to procreate is "suppose" to be ingrained in all of us.

They probably also know people who have said that they never want to have children who have changed their minds.

I would just ignore them.

Most woman who say they don't want children are the ones who can't have children. So they just make an excuse that they don't want children. So they don't have to face the truth that they are sterile.

Any sentence that begins "Why do people think..." is wrong before you finish it.
