No joke.......buy putty knives and do it your self......or hire some local teenagers for on the weekend to help. Popcorn ceilings are not hard to remove yourself and the results are better than calling in someone. One good reason is the mess they Will leave behind......plus with this not being their home, they will not ensure that the air conditioning is shut down, so this "dust" will get sucked into the air ducts and then you will continue to get to live with the popcorn ceiling you no longer see, but get to breathe.

If this is in the kitchen also, tape and drape plastic over the cabinets from the top down, extending at least 1 foot below the bottom of the cabinets.

If this is in the bedroom, don't forget the dresser draws and closet doors! No one wants to wear fresh popcorn dust!

Remember to drape plastic over the top, and tape plastic to the bottom of the refrigerator (at the vents). This dust is murder on motors, and electronics. All TVs and computers should be covered for drift. Remove coffee pot also.

"Professionals" don't live in your home, and they will not take the time or have the care that a homeowner will have with their stuff. I really think you should find a few teens or "friends" to come help you do this job yourself! You can control what does and doesn't happen in your home! Plus the fact that you will save a bundle.

Good Luck!

I don't know who you could contact but this is a easy thing to do.
Remove furnishings, tarp floors and walls with plastic, spray the ceiling with water to get it wet. A garden sprayer, a paint sprayer with water in it, even a hose with a sprayer on it if careful .
Get a long handle on a straight edge of some type. I have even used small metal signs that I have attached to a long wood closet pole to keep me from being under the popcorn as it falls. Scrape it off with the scraper. Do a small section at a time. be care full not to gouge the sheet rock or the taped seams. If it doesn't come off easy you do not have it wet enough. Let the water soak into the popcorn for a few minutes before scraping.
Hope this helps, kenney g. in Portland , Oregon.

GO around to a few construction sites and ask the guys doing the work if they want to earn some easy cash money doing it for you .
THIS will save you hundreds if not a few thousand dollars .The house should be empty of all furniture and if it is a few rooms they should be cleared and sealed to prevent dust from spreading throught the house make sure all vents are sealed and the air duct system is protected from debris .Do it your self and save big time get a water spraying canister a three foot scrapper soak the ceiling with water and scrape and clean up the mess your self
THEN call a drywall finisher to complete the job and make repairs .THIS can save you a few thousand dollars .

I had one of those and used to sit on the couch staring up at it, fantasizing about getting out a Saws-All and just cutting all around the edges and letting the damn thing just fall to the floor.

If it has not been painted, use a spray bottle of water, wet down workable areas, and push it off with a wide blade putting knife.

It will make a mess.
