When I ask someone for help I'm honest about it. When a person offers to help, but then they don't.......... If I could find other friends I would. My lifestyle is limited.

Your word is your bond, if you can't stand behind it, then you pretty much suck.

I also limit my lifestyle when it comes to friends. I've had best friends for years that just crap on me. I know that people make mistakes and there is pressures, gossip, etc., but I don't believe in crapping on people you love. Others do though and then either don't notice or get all apologetic and you know they'll just do it again. I don't think moving on to other friends is the answer because no one keeps their word all the time. Sucks.

people are not used to honesty
and truth
they may agree to help you just because they felt
they had to
then they skip it
someothers would just have some serious excuses
so dont expect too much from people
not to let you down
and if its about marriage
my best friend had a guy
who was travelling away
he asked her to wait for him
and he will be back to marry her
he left for 2 months
and came back
she was on a vacation for a week
he called her and asked her to come back
because he want to marry her badly
she came back on thrusday to find that his
wedding from another girl on friday
it was davestating
since then i think no one should expect anything from any one
not to lose faith but to keep distant
as long the thing is not in my hands yet
i wouldnt count i have it

This is so frustrating, I feel for you. I have family that does this and although I have learned to deal with it, I have a hard time when my children are hurt and disappointed by broken promises. I have my kids look at the situation that their relative is in, remind them of the good intentions behind the promise and try to prepare them for disappointment when another promise is made. The only thing that you really have is your word and if your word means nothing, you have nothing.

You mean like the person who was supposed to be at my house the other night at 6 and called at 5:30 to say they would be there in an hour and they still have not shown up?

Because they are slugs with no sense of responsibility and they don't care about anyone else.

Because people are creatures of comfort, and someones word doesn't mean what it used to. It feels good to make a promise to someone, but if it becomes burdensome to deliver on the promise, it is easier just to bail, and today's society doesn't "judge" people for their actions anymore. It used to be was your word was your bond...today, many people could care less.

I am sorry that obviously someone has let you down.

You've never told a lie - not even a small one where your only intent was to make the other person feel better. If your answer is no, you not only have a limited number of friends, you have a very limited number of adults on the planet with whom you can compare. It's part of life.

I wonder that myself. I have been lied to so many times that I have serious trust issues. I have become a pessimist, and it sucks. It is hard to put faith in someone for me. I wish people could just be honest. It would save us allot of wasted time, and wasted love. Good Luck Hon!

Character is something that is valued and taught less and less in our society today, unfortunately.

We now learn that money, looks, success, popularity, etc. are to be envied and sought after. I am of a shrinking belief that who you are matters most. This includes keeping your word and being honest and truthful.

Some people havnt learned the value of a friendship., so they take everything for granted and say things just to say them. It's better to not have a friend at all then to have those types of friends.
