My son has been on concerta for 4 years and I'm fairly happy with it. I saw immediate, positive results. He has had loss of appetite but I feed him well at breakfast and once the meds start to wear off, he makes up for all the food he missed during the day. There has been no weight loss but low weight gain (and I can't say for sure it's the meds responsible, could be hereditary) My main drawback is he suffers horrible constipation even though the fluids and fibers are in the diet. Hope this helps!

I've been taking Concerta for about six years now and it has definetly helped me. The only effect it had on me really was the loss of appitite. So I try to get in a good breakfast, some snacks during the afternoon if I'm not hungry enough to eat a true lunch, and a good dinner.

I work in Special Education and I can honestly tell you that when a child is on the right dose of the right medication for him/her, it makes a tremendous difference in their ability to concentrate and focus and become successful in the things they do. You must work with your doctor and report any negative side effects. There are many different medications available and I actually feel sorry for the students whose parents refuse to medicate them. Give it a try.

My son who is now 19 has been on several ADHD drugs and all of them had severe side effect for him. No appetite, verbal and physical tics, increased heart rate (felt like he was having a heart attack) peaks and valleys were horrible. When he was 12 years old he refused to take any more meds. I told him that was fine, he is who he is and we will deal with it in another manner.
Good luck to you.
