Yeah, I thought it was kind of cool to have to use your own potato. The plastic one is just not as good!

Yes! I was a little kid in the early- to mid-60s and remember going into the bag of potatoes we kept in the fridge to play with the Mr. Potato Head pieces. My mom would let me play for a while sticking the pieces into the potato, then would take them and bake "Mr. Potato Head" for dinner!

Absolutely! All you got in the Mr. Potato Head set was the stick on eyes, noses, mouths, etc. You were expected to pick a potato from your root cellar for the body. Yet another example of why modern youth have little imagination. They don't even have the more modern version of Mr. Potato Head, they have Mr. Potato Head for GameBoy DS, PlayStation, etc.

According to history, Mr. Potato Head's body was that of a real potato!

It is funny, Mr. Potato Head has more life as a plastic toy than as the living organism he once was.

Yup, I had the set of eyes and noses etc. You had to provide your own spud. It must have been the early sixties. Like 62 63.
