:) well, one almost BECOMES the other.. it's a cycle.

think of it this way, in terms of Law (criminal cases, etc). all the Past judges' decisions can Affect future cases. so for example, if there is a law suit that occurs today, 2006: a woman is suing her company for sexual harrassment. her lawyer brings up that in 1992, a similar case occured and the woman won $1,000,000. so because in the Past (historically) the awarded amount was that high, Today the lawyer can argue this case is worth just as much, or more.

ok, so now switch over to Politics (similar, because of law makers, presidents, senators, etc etc). History shows and teaches people what Mistakes, and Improvements, that have been made in the past, during similar events (depression, economic growth, terrorist attacks, etc). the way Politicians have acted, reacted, or formed new laws, proposed new ideas, are all recorded some way in our History, in order to help us understand what to do NOW. it's not perfect, but it helps. and for example, a President today will have to be EXTREMELY careful due to what happened to President Clinton regarding his affair w/ Monica Lewinsky. so that scandal in history, helps to keep politicians "on their toes" so they will not have that happen to them.

so u can see how understanding History can help shape where Politics is going; a president now would not want to get in the same situation. this is true in ALL things... decision to go to war, decision to do this or that, or speak and ally w/ certain countries, or not to do it... it ALL depends on what has happened in the past, who is trustworthy, what is best politically and economically and socially... u cannot do anything in politics w/o understanding a lot of things that have happened in history.

hope this helps u! good luck.

Politicians are supposed to have learned the lessons of history before making major decisions rather than let history repeat itself.

e.g. Remember Vietnam; don't rage war with Iraq.
