Dr didn't seem concerned. Has anyone elses Dear Child eaten this much at this age? He weighed 14lbs 11oz and was 24 1/4 inches long on monday and he was born at 7lbs 6oz and 20 1/2 inches long on June 27th. The nurse said I should start him on cereal, but I thought it was too soon to do that.

he also sleeps 8 hours at night and does about 4 or 5 20-40 minute naps during the day.

According to what they say it is too early to start cereal. However if your child isn't getting full on formula and is a bigger baby, they tend to put them on it earlier.
It's so crazy for me to think of because my son is 3 months old and he barely takes 4oz bottles.
Good luck!

Sounds a lot like my oldest. She was born at 6lb 4 oz. Her first feeding was a full 8 ounces and she continued to eat like that for every feeding.
Her 1 month checkup she weighed 13 lbs. But since she had continued to grow longer as well, she was not overweight. Eating 8 oz at each feeding 6 times per day.
Her 2 month checkup found her at 18 lbs. Still growing longer so she was never fat. I started her on cereal in her bottle at 6 weeks because she was just too hungry between feedings. The doctor said that it was perfectly fine. (If you use a heaping tablespoon of cereal, and mix it very well with the formula before putting it into the bottle, it will help keep them satisfied without trying to spoon it in their mouths.) I got larger holed nipples to feed this enriched formula with.
Some babies just need more. My daughter was sleeping through the night from 3 weeks. As I said, she got formula in her bottle at 6 weeks. Then I was spoon feeding her cereal (pretty runny) and starter fruits by 3 months. She started getting her teeth at 3 1/2 months, and I was feeding her meat and vegetable baby foods by 4 months. Junior foods by 6 months, with some "real" food thrown in...toast fingers, french fries, etc.

Wow... that seems like a lot to consume. I just looked at my son's growth...
born 7 lbs. 4 oz. 19"...
at 12 weeks... 15 lbs. 6 oz. 25"...
but he didn't eat that much. Though I was giving him breastmilk... I had to pump and feed with a bottle the first 10 weeks... then I just nursed straight from the breast. When I was giving him bottles... I would feed him 4 oz. 8 times a day. One of those feedings would be formula just to make sure he would accept it should I need to switch. After the 10 weeks... it was straight nursing 8 - 10 times a day (probably 3-4 oz. a feeding)... and he slept through the night (straight 8-9 hours).
My doctor said up to 32 oz. per day is all they need. I think he's too young to be given cereal... though that's strictly up to you.
I guess if your doctor isn't concerned... then continue what you're doing. But if you see he's getting too chubby... you may want to substitue one of those feedings with water. Speak to your pediatrician first though.
This whole feeding thing can get you crazy. Some say to feed a baby until they don't want anymore. I have yet to hit that point with my kid... but he seems to look healthy and the doctor isn't concerned. Still I find myself stopping him after a certain point.
You'll probably wonder everyday if you're overfeeding... take comfort in the fact that you're not alone in this... and you will manage.

That sounds perfectly fine, if you think about it that's 6-8oz bottles in a 24 hour period. You have a healthy growing baby boy. Adding some cereal won't hurt him, just once a day near bedtime is better. He may sleep longer that way. Make it slightly soupy or add some to a bottle but make sure the hole doesn't get clogged. His appetite for bottles will decrease as he gets older don't worry.
Good Luck!

Thats alot for an 11 week old baby. Dont start on cereal always start on rice because it is easier on their stomachs. You can put an ounce to 2 ounces in the bottle but I would only do this at night before bed or maybe just breakfast lunch dinner. BUT that is alot for a babby in one day. Maybe your doctor misunderstood you?

That does seem a lot, and he is only 14lbs? Sounds fishy to me. It is not too soon to start the baby cereal though. You can try it to see if he is interested in it.
