My mom says if I shower in the Morn and go outside my pores are still open and I invite the chance of a cold. Is that an old wives tale?

During the winter it is better to shower at night because the skin oils have time to replenish before going outside. This prevents wind burn and excessive drying of the skin. More important for men than women because of facial shaving and generally poorer skin care. Same goes for excessively hot temps like the desert. Under normal conditions, I haven't heard of any pros or cons of either morning or night showers. How many men really moisturize their faces.

Let me add to the above statement, If you have allergies night showers are recommended to prevent you from bringing pollens or other allergens into the bed from your hair or skin.

Yes, you get colds from viruses, usually from other people, it has nothing to do with your pores being open.

I shower both at night and in the morning. I have left house with hair wet and it is frozen by the time I get to work and I go sometimes 3 years without a cold.

Unfortunately my mother also believed, and still believes that showering and going outdoors will give you a cold. A cold is caused by virus or bacteria, not from being clean. I always shower in the morning, that way I'm clean for the day.

Yeah that's an old wives tale. Same thing with wet hair you won't get a cold from it. I shower twice daily and haven't gotten a cold

It is everyones choice, morning showers wake you up (but never heard that about pores before cos colds are caught from viruses through the mouth)

Evening showers (which I prefer) wash off your day time grime and make you relax and ready for bed.

It's right. It's easier for a person to get a cold when they shower in the morning, especially if you're going to go out after.

The best time is the morning. It wakes you up and gets your body moving in an easy way. There is no evidence that going outside while wet causes colds.

shower inthe morning to freshen you up. Pores are not open.
Shower at night or evening to relax you - cold shower - and you sleep well.
