This is funny.
I asked my Physics professor the same question and he laughed.
The staff came to a conclusion.
When light hits an object the only colour that you see is the colour that is not absorbed into the object. What?
Colour is actually the light reflected from an object. Red will absorb all colours except red.
Since there are all colours around you all the light would be absorbed at the speed of light, eventually.
Without a constant source the light would stop due to absorption and energy distribution since light has energy.
So, I could buy that, but I then asked if I constructed a mirrored box with the reflection internally, would the light get trapped and stay until the box was opened?
Not so, energy distribution.
Besides it would fall under the fridge category.
I drove my profs nuts.

When you flip the switch, this causes the flow of electrons from reaching the light bulb, thus incompleting the circuit. Think of your light switch like a valve in a water pipe. When you open the valve, the water will flow. When you close the valve, the water stops flowing. Your light switch is like the water valve. Sometimes the light hides under the covers, or in the closet. As a matter of fact, I have found spare light bulbs hiding in the closet, which could indicate that they are gay. The gay light bulbs should come out of the closet to be exposed. Good luck.

The light goes back to from where it came:"the switch" (Sometime a switch feels hot. That means that there is too much light into the switch and that it urgently has to be turned on.In such a case:open a window so that the light can escape.)

When a light is switched on the flow of electrons through the wiring goes into the bulb filament and makes it white hot or incandescent. This is the light you see from a bulb.
When you switch off the light you stop the flow of electrons thus making the filament go cold and stop glowing.
