I have a Yahama steel string acoustic. I bought Dean Markley Bronze acoustic strings Lite guage about 4 years ago. Will they still sound the same as if I bought the same strings today? They've been in the package since then. I'm on a really tight budget, btw.

I suppose you're wondering about things like oxidation and stuff. If they'd been in the package they should be fine. Actually, even if you took them all out and left them sitting on a shelf, the only noticeable difference would be a slight discoloration and a bit of dust. They're fine to use since they haven't been tightened up to tuning spec and stretched yet. Remember - the regular use of a good string cleaner will prolong the life of the strings even further.

If you're on a tight budget, go ahead and use them. But they won't sound quite the same. The acoustic steel strings seem to get brittle if they sit around for a couple of years. Sounds silly, but that's been my experience. Maybe brittle isn't the right word, but they don't have the silky feel and they don't resonate quite the same.

they will work just fine if you haven't used them because the purposse of a sting is to be streched and that makes the sond.
So if there new but 4 years old its okay to use them.

They should be OK, just as long as they haven't been in the heat and dried out.
