I have a D-Link DWL-510 PCI Wireless Card and a Safecom SWART-54125 Wireless ADSL Router. And i can't get good internet download speed... i have it all set up properly and i have even tried having both the ariel and the wireless router right by each other... yet still i get speeds of 13.1 KB/S when i should be getting 874 KB/S. Anyone can help... and dont tell me to get a new router or Wireless card because the internet is fine with my laptop in all rooms. And the wireless card has only just started doing this... please help if possible!

Connect the Laptop to the router using an Ethernet cable, if the download speed is still low then the problem is the computer, it may require all the temp Internet files clearing out or it may be a virus.

If download speeds are only with the wireless card, check that you are actually on your network and not someone's open network ( believe me it does happen )

Get the latest firmware upgrades for both the router and wireless card.

If your router has a firewall then turn off firewall on the computer.

Finally borrow a wireless laptop and see if the problem remains.

hi,
There's a lot of issues to consider here.

What you should do is:

1) Connect your PC to your ADSL Router using a normal lan cable and then do a speed test. (see Link)

2) Connect your PC back to using the PCI card and again do a speed test. (See Link)

3) You should notice very little variation in the tests. When doing both tests ensure any download\upload programs etc are not running on any computer.

If you do notice a difference:

1) Update the drivers and firmware for both your router and pci cad (if possible)

2) Ensure nobody else is using your wireless connection by ensuring you have sme WEP\WPA type protction setup on your router.

3) Try running the tweaks at http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

4) Ensure you haven't got any spyware\adware installed by running Spybot Search and Destoy, AdAware, CCleaner and HijJackThis.

5) Finally remember if you are uploaded at the same time, and you are "maxing out " you connection upload speed, it will have a severe effect on your download speed.

Well wether you want to here it or not, get rid of D-link.
They don;t use proper wireless technology, they use Dual banding or Dual Link (D-Link), as a result you get all kinds of stupid problems.
Get some proper technology like Linksys.

How far are you from the DSL substation? Max distance is about 15,000 feet and the further away you are, the less bandwidth you'll get.
