Yes, they really do, but stay away from the "Ionic Breeze" types, as they are total scams. The principle is sound, but will only work in an enclosed space, and even then will take forever to clean a 4' square box. A good hepa filter unit can do that in about 30 seconds. The best one? Buy the best you feel you can afford. Make sure it has some sort of carbon element or it will do nothing for odors. Cheers....

We've got several ionic breeze (a couple w/ uv lights, a couple w/o). I really like them. They are quiet and definitely help to clean the air, you can tell when you clean them. But I have also heard that uv lights inserted into a central a/c system are also very good. We also had a honeywell and hated it. It was loud, sounded like a plane taking off. And the filters were gross to change, got charcoal dust all over the floor. And we have the ionic breeze car air purifiers as well.

Best affordable in the long run would be a whole house air purifier w/ uv lights inserted into a/c unit in attic (300-400). Or the ionic breeze wins vs the honeywells as you clean off the filters instead of getting new ones. You can get on the catalog list for Sharper Image and they will mail you coupons to use.

YES!!!!! I had always thought about purchasing one but never did because I was afraid of wasting money on something that wouldn't work. However, when I had my son, we were constantly taking him to the doctor - at least once a month due to some cold, allergy or irritant. (We live in the country on a dirt road and the dust is horrible). The doctor recommended that we get an air purifier with a hepa filter and see if that helps. We put it in his room and voila!! He hasn't had any issues for a whole year now. We LOVE the air purifier!

If you had ever had one, I know you wouldn't be asking this question after you took it apart just once to clean!

I would love to buy the ones on the TV info commercial, but have not found one that the BBB hasn't had complaints on in one state or another.

I'm not going to spend that price without knowing that it is better than what I can buy at Wal-Mart, despite the smaller size. For the money involved, I would prefer to buy several instead of "just one", and if they wear out, throw them out, because I'm still ahead of the game.

They do remove "stuff" from the air! Increase health? I would think that to do this, I would need one that was the size of a home air conditioning system, and never open the windows or go outside. So use the smaller, less expensive ones to get what you want removed.

Yes, it helps. The most important thing is to choose one with HEPA filters in it. Avoid ionic airpurifiers because they emit dangerous ozones.

The best HEPA machines are one produced by IQAir and Allerair. However, if money is a consideration, Alen's 350 is also a good choice.

Yes they work. You'll have to shop around to find the price you're willing to pay. Check the "spec sheet" info to determine what the device actually does. The kind that require routine filter changes are not my favorites. I tend to let them go too long before I change them out. That's just me.

Yes they do.But there really is not a standardized way of measuring the cleaning effectivness.(except for the room size) I would check out consumer reports "archives" and get the most recent tests on them, for comparison.

Yes they do. It helps take away the bad air pollution and dust. I say use the Black and decker air filter.
