That question is open to a great deal of debate. It benefits some that is true. It also can harm some. That is also true. Ask the auto workers what they think of trade, for example. Or the steel workers. Then ask the mutinational corporations such as Microsoft what they think of trade or Walmart.

The politicians of the U S and other countries were not always in favor of free trade. There was a time when it was considered beneficial to the country to protect industries at home from foreign competition.

The small number of people that may be adversely affected will always be outweighed by the MILLIONS that will now receive cheaper prices or better goods. If a country stopped trade every time it was not good for someone, then there would be no trade and that is a historically disastrous proposition.

And you did not ask, but there is no such thing as "fair trade". That is made up by politicians who want to get elected to office by kissing the behind of a certain block of voters.
