I will retire next August and want to move to Cebu City , Philippines. I want to know what is the best and least expensive way to do this. My wife and Daughter are Philippine Citizens, I am looking to ship tools, some houshold items and maybe a car.

If you do not have a 13-G visa, you will pay customs tax on each item. The customs official will place a tax on it that exceeds the real value. Then to get it processed in less that 6 months you will pay hundreds or thousands of dollars in bribes. Add these costs to the shipping costs and you are probably better off giving the stuff to Goodwill. If you bring nice things to the Islands, they will probably be stolen fairly quickly after you get them out of customs.

i think that it will be cheaper to buy some of the stuff in the philippines.

should you decide to ship your stuff (except the car), ask some filipinos where ever you are located (if you meet one) how do they send stuff to philippines? usually they do it through a "balik-bayan box" it means a box or package for people going back home to Philippines.

in the UK, the weight does not matter. the charge depends on the size of the box and where in the philippines will you send it.

Yup, get quotes from shippers and references from friends. Your shipper is only as good as the broker on this side. The broker here can control a lot including ensuring your boxes are not opened by customs. We shipped our stuff here from the Bay Area for about $1500 (31 Balikbayan Boxes and some furniture including bed frame, matress, and box springs).

Rent space in a container that going that way. It may take quite a while, but that should be the best bet.

You might consider selling most of it and buying new/used in Cebu.

Don't send anything to there. You are better off by buying it 'cause it will be easier and cheaper!
