He pissed off Tlaloc, the Mayan rain god, and unrelenting rains delayed the shoot and the release date, which seems to be holding at December 8, 2006.
The dialogue is all in Mayan and most of the actors are Mayan as well. I am looking forward to it. It's about when the Mayan civilization fell, not when the Spanish came.

Gibson is due to begin shooting the film, titled "Apocalypto," on location in Mexico in October and is aiming for a summer 2006 release
clearly summer is over and the movie isnt out yet but after some reaserch, looks like the release date is December 8th.
