Have you worked in a charity shop?
If so could you tell me the honest truth...
Do they keep the best stuff for themselves and not put it out on display?

My son worked for a year at a charity shop and he always got first crack at buying the bowling shirts and vinyl albums he wanted. Another guy who worked there would always grab cameras for his collection but since most people worked there for a long time, they quickly got sick of buying from the shop and 99% of the "best stuff" made it to the shop.

Best stuff is so relative. The things you'd like to have are often not what the people who work there would think of as the best so treasures still turn up at charity shops all the time. Especially the smaller shops that have had the same two women working forever.

Yes you do get the pick of whats on offer and at a better price not what joe public pays plus you get a discount. What do you expect when people are working for free, they need some incentive

yes, they do have first pickings, but with things like ebay now, charity shops only usually get the really crappy stuff.

I should imagine, the volunteers in the shop have first refusal on some of the stock as it arrives, but like in other retail outlets will have to pay for it.
