That is a good question since some police officers appear to be power happy. (If one feels powerless as a child, it stands to reason that he/she might grow up and choose a career that would make one feel powerful.) However, I only had one classmate that choose to become a police person and she was very popular in high school. Even as an officer, she continues to be well liked and respected. Rather than being power happy, she comes across as one that wants to see citizens protected from criminals.

I was at the top of my class. I graduated with a 3.8 GPA. I was most popular, best dressed, and voted most likely to succeed. I was loved intensely in High school. I treat people like they want to be treated. I had some rough times at Wayne State University, but I was never an asshole to people. And now I'm a fine Detroit Police Sargent.

Not true. I know someone that did the picking and is now a police officer, probably so they can continue picking on people.

It's a psychological thing. Those that got picked on became police officers because it gives them power over other people. Something they were missing before.

You nailed that one on the head! I'm pretty sure about 90% of police officers are control freaks who want power that they have never been able to obtain in any other areas of their life.

"Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord. I will repay". BUT, nowhere, even in the fine print, does it say He can't use a person to carry it out. And what better person than the original victim? You think those who decide to become cops can't figure this out?

So they can still be the criminals they always were just get away with it a little easier now because they're cops, until they slip up and get caught.
