you need a provider/host and you may want a domain name OR you can use a free one

there are free web hosts out there which can have a domain added to - e.g. http://www.freewebtown.com/

alternatively we have paid hosts listed on our website http://imrgoodbuy.co.uk/shops/category/internet

adding a domain to your account involves DNS settings so look for that if you want to add a domain name - .co.uk domains cost about £5 for 2 years....but is different for all domains

to know how to use web script language is something different....some web hosts use cPanel and Fanatastico. Fantastico allows you to install software to setup a website quicly - e.g. a content management system; which allows you to edit, add, update content etc.

This is a pretty complex question because it depends heavily on what you want to do. A basic site with static (i.e., non-dynamic, non-database-driven) pages will have very relaxed requirements, while a complex site integrated with multiple data sources (backend databases, Web Services, etc.) may have very specific requirements.

Determine your technical requirements, then go shopping for providers who can meet your needs. Don't go on price alone -- there are lots of cheap and very-poorly-run hosts out there. If you're looking for a Unix-ish platform (or don't care about the platform), pair Networks (see link below) has been extremely good for my clients and me. Very easy to recommend them, but if you're thinking of an ASP.NET-based site, then they're not even in the running. Again, it comes back to what you want to do and what the technical requirements are for it.

Most webhosts will get you up and running quick some offer different benefits..
http://edatarack.com/ $36 per year
Good price lots of features allows you to add your own sub domain names..

domain name http://godaddy.com/ Under $9 per year every thing else is free listed below total per $45
I don't like them but they are cheAp and have a good panel for pointing your domain name
That is something you will have to do to make your website come up on the net ..you should get that info when you get confirmation of your website setup it It will say NSXXXX or DNSxxxx

To set one up go to their site and put in information
like what your domain name is "get one of them before you get a webhost"

I've used all of these before
Basic's you'll need an "FTP program " "free"
http://www.coreftp.com/

or an editor that will upload stuff to your website "free"
NVU will do that follow the link
.http://nvu.com/index.php

A bunch of free website templates
http://openwebdesign.org/

Most hosts have you on hte internet under 24 hrs

You'll need some patience but that is the basic of what you'll need to do..

If you have any questions you can write me

If it's for personal home page Geocities, Brinkster and tripod are good sites. They give free space for storing html and image files and in return shows their advt on your site.

* tripod gives ftp access
** brinkster.com supports use of MS Access and ASP pages.
