If I see two things I like together, I will buy and wear them, I don't care if they are 'officially' in style. There is nothing wrong with setting a trend yourself(or not). There is nothing wrong with having the courage to "wear who you are".

You got it right, buddy. Wear what you want, especially in New York. What looks good on one peson might look better on the next.

Many people however can't put an outfit together to save their life - and they need the styles and books to help them "learn" what is right to wear.

As for having courage to "wear who you are" there are "roles" that exist and no matter what you say you can be an 'INDIVIDUAL" but people are going to think differently of you and have different ideas about who you are and may not give you a chance just beacuse of what you are wearing... I am not saying that this is a good thing I am just stating that this is reality and we ALL have to live in reality no matter how individual we like to be!!

Actually following a fashion catalogue is what creates what is called a "fashion victim". Have you seen the stunning and creative pictures in Vogue? They look nice, but I wouldn't go around dressing like that because I would look like someone out of a crazy house. The best think to do is to take of fashion what fits your body shape, fits the occasion (because your appearance always makes an impact, and it is communication, and you want to transmit the right message... there's no way around it!) and makes you feel good.

Im with you on this one friend! Some of the clothes out now r just plain UGLY and Im NOT gonna wear it just cuz Jessica Simpson or JLO is wearing it! NOT! Today society makes it very very hard on girls and women- tv and magazines make us feel like we have to look a certain way-weigh 100 lbs and be perfect! Id much rather be in something IAM comfortable in and that makes me happy!

I think fashion trends are helpful as a guideline, but if you are a slave to it, then you lose your true self. When people judge each other on the value ($$) of what they are wearing, they are missing out on who they really are.

I applaud you for setting your own style.

(And anything that's considered "bling" is tacky!)

some people are so self conscious that they care what others will think about their clothing or think clothes make them look better. it has to do with confidence.
