my position at my work is being terminated this Friday. my question is will I be qualified for unemployment? I have been working here since January this year as a programmer. The thing is, I joined the Army, and I have to go back to pick my job monday. Im am going to try to ship off by the end of next week. However, If i dont leave for another month or so, I am going to try to stay home with the kids and save about 200 dollars a week for daycare, all in the while I collect unemployment. I think it would be a good opportunity to spend as much time with my kids as possible. On the other hand If i dont leave for boot camp for a few months, I have a job waiting tables. the thing is, they dont want to hire me for less than a month and me have to quit to leave for the ARMY. I have 2 college degrees, and i know that there probably are not many companies that would hire me short time. I have never been on unemployment and I was just wondering. I live in Oklahoma. any thoughts or suggestions.

You have to continuously search for a job while on unemployment though. Even you don't actually do it, they will want a log of the jobs that you sent resumes in to, etc. They may also have you come in for some meetings. Mine did that when I was laid off. Don't tell them though that you plan on staying home with the kids before going in the army. To be eligible for unemployment, you must be able to work and be attempting to find a job, not have one lined up for 2 months down the road.

Yes, If the job is being terminated through no fault of your own and you have worked the minimum weeks for that company (22 here in Indiana) you will qualify for benefits.

If you want to continue to work short term before you leave for the army you should sign up with a temp company and let them know you are wishing for short term assignments.

You would be elgible for unemployment as long as you are not recieving monies from the government. You can file now, as most states take a week to kick out benefits. It doesnt matter how much you will be saving, just if you have money coming in or not.

that's a unique situation. yes you can get unemployment, but it won't kck in until you stop getting sevrence/vacation pay. you still need to file asap because it will take a while to get it processed. After that you have to record job searches even if you don't get one.
Don't tell them about the army.
By the way, why did you join if you have 2 degrees and want to be around your kids????????????

you said you signed up with the military? i think you can get unemployment as long as you haven't been recruited by the military. why not check with your local unemployment office?
