A few books that I have read only hint that they were written around the turn of the century since they mention about Austria-Hungrain Empire. If interested them, The one that really comes to mind would be "Auf Zwei Planten" (or "Two Planet") by Kurd Lasswitz. The copywrite indicate its first print was 1897, but it is out of print in English which printed in 1971.
