Shane Hmiel had a bright future, but ruined it by testing positive for drugs. Casey Atwood and Kerry Earnhardt also come to mind.

I wonder how many of you that dis Kyle Petty know that he has 8 wins and finished in the top ten in points 5 times in his career. Granted, he is driving now more for the Victory Junction Camp publicity than anything else, but I think it is unfair to put him in this category. There are a ton of drivers out there that would love to have 8 wins at the Cup level. OK, rant over.

My pick for floppers...
Derricke Cope. Daytona 500 winner when The Big E ran out of gas, and never saw any level of success again. Also, how about Shauna Grant. Much ado about nothing, not that BAM racing gave her much support.

There are actually quite a few drivers that could fit this category. Some of the names that come to my mind are Rick Wilson, Loy Allen Jr, Casey Atwood, Hermie Sadler, Larry Foyt, Christian Fittipaldi, Buckshot Jones, Steve Grissom, Andy Houston, Rich Bickle.

That just goes back to 1999. There are tons of them if one were to view all of the historical standings. And, there could be more included. Those names just came to mind.

Tim Richmond, not truly a flop, but a tragic event that such a talented driver was never able to reach his true potential. He won quite a few races in the short time before his own behavior caught up to him and ultimately led to his unfortunate death.

i would have to say this list could go on and on..
however, i have to say if they go out there and give it their all and dont' make it at least they gave it a shot.. ya know??
i agree with you about shane hmiel and now grubb. why do something so assanine to completely blow your big shot.. that seems illogical and stupid to me. even worse than finishing dead last every week.

He died in the car, but that's not why I'm picking him but Kenny Irwin, Jr. I belive that was the begining of the downfall of RYR putting Irwin in the 28. That was a top ride at the time and putting him in the car was a mistake.

I hate he died, but he was a flop.
