technically, the child is mixed, some use the term mulatto(sp?) since the child carries the genes of both, his/her offspring may favor either ethnicity in features ... its really unimportant, however, the child will have the luxury of taking advantage of minority sponsored programs in the future by declaring his/her status as "black" when applying for them. .. on the down side, organizations that favor "white" status, may exclude him/her because of the mixed parentage ... too much is made of race ethnicity in this day and age ... realize that encouraging "playing the race card" only perpetuates racism. in my opinion, organizations that stress racial inequality do more for promoting racial inequality and racism than their stated purpose would imply ... its a political football that is archaic and deserves to be punted once and for all .... ethnic minorities will never have equality until the organizations that promote divisiveness and special treatment for ethnic status are abolished for the good of us all so we are all just treated as human beings

The ethnicity is determined by the father, but most people choose what they want them to be. My husband is Hispanic and I'm White. Our kids look white, but when I'm asked for their race I put Hispanic.Because of their Daddy. I have always been told by the schools that they usual determine by the father.

I think somebody would probably get angry if any state had a written policy on whether to call a child black or white. In society though, sadly, it usually is decided by the complexion of the child. If the child is darker, people usually just call them black. If they have very light skin, and/or white features, people will usually call them biracial. Until the child is old enough to choose their own identity, of course.

Skin color is determined by multiple genes, so they won't be black or white, they will be something inbetween. As far as ethnicity of the child you could say Both White and Black.. so pick the one you want! :)

If you have just a pinch (and I mean pinch) of Black in you, then the government classifies you as Black. Some people who are multi ethnic select "other" under the race column when filling out forms. But, the government will classify you as Black, trust me.

wont they choose on forms what to say forever?? that is how it is in most places. Balck will win probably since that predominates in the flesh and makes the baby darker
