we are in very rural France, like B-roads and some green lanes. This bike will just be for fun, perhaps 50-mile trips maximum.

KTM 950 Supermoto or an MV Agusta Brutale 910R. Both excellent choices for twisty roads and have plenty of power to satisfy you on the straights.

BMW, that's just my opinion. My friend lives in Malibu and he says he LOVES taking his K 1200GT on the US-10 but everytime I read a motorcycle magazine they always test drive a BMW and take pictures in what looks like a rural European are. Don't have a specific model but most of them are great for B-roads. What's also great about BMW is if you get any model they are all a great touring/sport package.
