US History - Colonial America?

Question

1. Why were wage rates higher in colonial America than in countries like England or Whales
2. Was colonial America a land of opportunity for indentured servants?Why?

If anyone can answer either questions then it will be great help for writing my essay. Thanks

If a servant worked thier full indenture; they recieved freedom dues, which were based on Hebrew law from the Old testament(Deut. 15:12-15). Many colonies also granted land to the newly freed servant.

2. No. The use of indentured servants was to augment the slave trade. WHile it seemed to lay out a good deal, the deal was not honored in most cases and instead the workers were often baited-and-switched into a state of slavery. This happened throughout the New World.

i dunno the first one but the second is easy. Intentured servants that came to the colonial America were people from england that owed large amounts of debt or were in prision for that. So to pay off their debt in money or debt to society, they sold themselves for servants for a certain amount of time to pay it off. It was wayyy more worth it for them because they had their trip to America paid free...and they had a chance to get out of jail, even if it was after 7 years. After they worked that time period, they were released...and often times they travelled west in exploration because the east was getting populated and they were kinda poor and rejected. But hey....freedom is freedom, sure beats rotting in jail the rest of their lives.
