The neo-cons are a subversive and powerful group hiding within both parties with an agenda all their own. They have almost completely subverted the Republican party, and are working on the Democrats. They play up the whole Dems vs Reps not only to mislead and distract us, but to divide and conquer. Their telltale signature is their marketing tactic of RE-NAMING things in misleading ways to garner support, and the frequent use of the words "attack" and "New World Order". They have NOTHING to do with liberalism OR conservatism, they just USE conservatism as a marketing tool to consolidate their gullible constituency.

"It is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Actually, they are using it correctly. A conservative is an individual who promotes an "economic liberal" style agenda while contrasting with a "positive liberal" stance that promotes positive freedoms.
A neoconservative is a new type of conservative heavily influenced by religion that leans towards a fundamentalist social agenda while retaining the economic stance of a conservative.
