There is a push button in the door jamb. It is adjustable. Push it in with your finger if it works properly ,adjust it outward until your light and bell stay off when your door is closed. In some instances a mercury type alarm sensor on the hood ( a level activated alarm switch) will affect the courtesy light,If the door button does not resolve it check for the mercury switch.

Your button for the door is malfunctioning. The button for when you open the door, the light comes on and when you shut the door it goes out. Spray WD-40 all over the button then keep pushing it in & out. If it don't work, order a new button. They are 12 dollars and very easy to put in. I had the same problem with my 98 F150

Look inside the driver door, near the hinges.
Find the switch that is activated by the door closing, there is probably something wrong with it.
