Would it be best to knock on peoples doors telling them about the free spending they get for having a party or put flyers through doors, or have a party at mine and invite everyone to come and tell people there, or put an advert in the local paper.

Word of mouth is the best way to grow this type of business until you get some dollars behind you to gear this up.
Start with people you know - this is how all Avon reps start to grow their business. Focus on the entire experience - find a way to make it memorable.
Soon you'll have people calling you non-stop! After that you can look to produce outreach materials. With a strong brand like the body shop, you're bound to succeed.

As a person who has had to do their fair share of marketing over the last few years, here's a few tips:
Don't drop flyer through people's doors - that's expensive and time consuming. Plus people get pretty pissed off at this.
Do have a party at yours and invite all your friends and family around, plus any of their friends, etc. That way you can slowly build up a client base and those who have been to your party will recommend it to others - in my experience this is the best way of advertising.
Give a well written and presentable leaflet to all those who attend your party in order for them to keep or pass on to someone who'll be interested. This will be more cost-effective in the long run and the leaflets will go to those who will want to go to your party.
Adverts in the local papers are also a very good way of getting interested people. But make sure you always have some sort of gimmick or quick selling point.

Local paper ads, and the flyers in the door should do the trick. Joining locall groups and using word-of-mouth from the parties should help as well.

Posters in shops, (cheap), Flyers through doors, word of mouth does the best though. Try free ads too

What the heck is a body shop party????
Why not make some nice postcards and put them on peoples cars outside of clubs!!!

you already have all the answers any one of them will work great.I think that you need to start with the party to show ppl what a body shop party is.then go put out flyer's.ask your friends if you can put on a party at their house or if they have any friends to show a party to.

im i would say leflets and party round yours aslo you could adviste in free sites and in the supermarket but dont knock on peoples doors i find it relly annoying id much rather recive a leflet

put poster in local newsagents shop windows in bus stops i live in the country and we have a parish's mag which puts advent in cheap
