wow! jidwg, u sound like a writer, and a published one too! ppl tell me I am a writer, but I cant write under stress. Anyway, i will say this: thank you for the adcvice. and to answer the question, yes it is hard. i have written and registered 3 screenplays with the writer's guild, and have written several short stories, and i LOVE to write, however I have not had the discipline to write every day. Health problems, and not having my own comp doesn't help. To answer your question, go with what jidwg had to say. She sounds like the real deal!

Writing for publication is extremely hard work and not for everyone. The successful writer must be disciplined and motivated. Procrastinators will find writing torture because a novel or script will never come out perfect the first time and may require dozens of rewrites before it is ready for market. Start by keeping a journal, record your feelings, observations, opinions, ideas, anything that you can later use as material. Write everyday and give yourself a minimum word count so you will know if you have the patience and dedication to accomplish the task even when you don't feel like writing. A good number would be 1000 words per day. If you have the imagination, the desire and are not afraid of hard work or criticism then take as many writing classes and workshops as you can to hone your talent and connect with other writers. If you do all these things and the fire still burns brightly in you then you probably are a writer. And never forget.....read,read,read!!!

Yes it is. There is also a big difference between writing books and movies. If you can write a book that does not mean you can write a movie screenplay, and vice versa.
