Hello, I suffer from migraines as well. To better understand your condition it is good to look on the Internet and read up on it. Here is just a little information that might be helpful. Does bright light bother you? If it does, how does your body react? Do you get dizzy or do you flinch your eyes? Believe it or not bright light can trigger migraines. Do you drink red wine? Red wine triggers migraines. Certain vegetables and chocolate triggers migraines. Are you under a lot of stress? If you feel that you need a break from your 2 year old, take a break. Call the babysitter to get your 2 year old for 1 or 2 hours. Use this time to just take a nap. I am serious, because as a mother, we all need a break to rest. If your child is highly energetic, create activities where he/she can do quietly in the house. Now what I take for my migraine is Aleve. I take 1 if it hurts a little and 2 if hurts a lot. Believe it or not , If you drink 1 glass of beer it helps with the migraine. I know you can not always lay down but if you take a quick nap it might help. Please remember to never take medicine on a empty stomach. Good Luck!

Poor you, migraines are so horrible! First, you need to go into a darkened and totally quiet room. Lie down, if you can bear to do so, some people find that lying down can make the pain worse. You should drink plenty of cool water, not icy, it makes the pain more intense. Being dehydrated can bring on a migraine. Drink lots of water even if you don't feel thirsty. Taking an anti-inflammatory is better than taking a painkiller, as it will open up the constricted blood vessels in the brain which are what causes such intense pain, as the blood can't circulate properly. Then sleep as long as you possibly can. you may feel groggy and ''out of it'' for a few days. Using a cold pack on the nape of the neck and a hot pack on the forehead, at the same time will reduce the intensity if the pain. Don't use the cold pack on the forehead or head as it can make the pain unbearably intense, only on the nape of the neck. You may feel at some time that you want to be sick, then do so, and generally you should fall asleep afterwards and the pain will be gone. You will feel very washed out for a few days. Eat lightly afterwards, nothing heavy or greasy. your body will let you know what's right to eat. Hope this helps to get rid of your migraine. :-)

How can you treat a migraine?

Once you've got a migraine, the only thing you want is for the pain to stop. There are many prescription treatments available from your doctor, but you may be surprised to know that you can get effective pain relief without a prescription.

Advil® Migraine is a way for you to treat the pain of migraine. It's the first and only FDA-approved migraine product in a liquid-filled capsule, with all the pain-relieving power you expect from Advil. It gets into your system fast. Advil Migraine lets you start controlling your migraines before they control you.

How can you prevent a migraine?
After you know what causes your headaches, you can take steps to help prevent them. For instance, if you're getting frequent migraines and know that stress is the culprit, take positive steps to reduce the stress in your life. Stress management techniques, such as meditation or biofeedback, can help. And don't forget exercise—it's a great stress reducer.

Lifestyle changes can also help. Try to eat regularly and get enough rest. If you have to sit at a desk for long periods of time, get up and stretch. Not only will you be relieving stress, but taking a break can give your mind time to refuel a bit, so you can go back and give your full attention to the job at hand.

Many migraines are food-related. Try recording what you eat and see if any particular foods trigger your migraines (with me its cocoa powder and chocolate ice cream!).

Also I used to find that my migraines happened more often and were more severe when I was dehydrated - drink plenty of fluid and it might help. Good ventilation also helps - try to avoid being in a hot stuffy atmosphere, especially at night.

Having said all that, some migraines just keep coming back no matter what you do and all you can do is try the various painkillers and migraine-relief treatments that are available until you find one that helps you the most.

How old are you?
If you are in your mid-30s, your migraines could be hormonal.

Migraines are serious headaches, most often occurring only on one side of the head, which are often preceded by a vague sense (aura) that the sufferer learns to recognize as an impending headache. Migraines are thought to be related to over dilation of blood vessels in the brain. They very likely have an allergic or chemically mediated trigger and are related to stress. They vary in severity, sometimes becoming almost unendurable without narcotic medication, and can be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Routine treatment involves ergotamine medication (often combined with caffeine), which, to achieve success, may result in side effects of muscle pains, numbness and tingling in the fingers and toes, rapid (or slowed) heart rate, and nausea and vomiting. Migraine victims live in fear of their next headache.

When migraine headaches occur with regularity in women only at premenstrual times, they are most likely due to estrogen dominance. These are the lucky patients. Estrogen causes dilation of blood vessels, and thus contributes to the cause(s) of migraines. One of the many virtues of natural progesterone is that it helps restore normal vascular tone, counteracting the blood vessel dilation that causes the headache. Here again, progesterone is safe and treats the cause in a normal, physiologic way. The more dangerous pharmaceutical drugs can be reserved for the rare case that does not respond completely to progesterone.

There are many over the counter relief aides. If they don't work it's best to go to the doctor. For me with migraines.. Any strong perfumes and certain foods like pickles and chocolate and even bright light cause me to have a migraine. Also, around my menstral cycle is when they come to.. They could be coming from your hormones. I hope this helps a little

Ask your doctor about perscribing you something for them, like Imetrex or Amidrine. I take Amidrine right now and that helps. I also take an herb called Feverfew twice a day. I've been doing that a few months now, and my migranes aren't as bad as they once were.

Try herbal supplements. There are many clinical studies to support its effectiveness in significantly reducing or completely eliminating the occurrence and the severity of chronic headache and migraine.

first i would see a doctor...in the meantime, be careful with what you eat. sometimes caffeine, sugar and processed foods can help to induce headaches/migraines. you can also apply cold compress or ice pack to your Head as soon as ache starts, rest in dark quiet room, meditate, or listen to quiet music. i understand with kids this may not be possible. try to keep a journal of what you eat, also chocolate, cheese and red wine can cause these migraines. don't skip meals. learn to pace yourself. try yoga and relaxation therapy. sometimes birth control can pills etc. can be a cause. good luck
