Canadians come from Canada, AMERicans come from AMERica. They are two completely different nations residing in the part of the world called North America. Canadians generally don't like being mistaken for Americans, and pretty much vice versa.
It is just like how the English, Scots, Irish and Welsh don't like being lumped together as all being one in the same.
It's a nationality thing...

There really isn't any difference except....
We would say the phrase, "One nation under God..."
Canadians would phrase it, "One nation under Wayne Gretzky"
