my next door neighbor owns a rottweiler and sometimes they leave the fence open and it walks around the street at night. on weekends, i come home late or early in the morning i should say. when i come home, i am always afraid that it will come up and bite me or attack me. at that time no one will know because everyone would be asleep. being afraid that it might maul me, i carry my loaded handgun with me everywhere i go sometimes. should i feel safe if i carry my gun or should i still be afraid of the dog?

In the heat of the moment that gun won't help a bit, you'll fire it if you have the chance to pull it out but if you don't hit the charging dog with a head shot, you won't even slow it down and you'll make it even madder and it will do it's best to kill you.Your better off calling the police now, report to them that this large dog is being let loose and let the city put pressure on the owner. If your caught with a loaded gun with no permit your going to jail.

first off find out if your town has leash law and if the dogs ahould be confined, second off if so please ask your neighbors to keep their dog in their own yard and if this doesn't happen then you will call the dog officer and report them. third off ever notice that when there is a dog attack the only TYPE of dog that is ever mentioned id pit bulls? any dog of any breed has the potential to attack if provoked . fourth why would you be carrying a loaded gun around in the middle of the night that alone is scary.fifth alot has to do with the upbringing of the of the dog. If you are that worried stay away from them at night and learn the proper ways to not make a dog afraid of you.

Has the dog ever actually shown any agression towards people or other animals???
If not, I wouldnt be afraid of it if I were you... If it has, then yeah you got a reason to be concerned...
Just because the dog is a Rottie doesnt mean it will attack you.... It all depends on how your neighbor has raised the dog!!!!

I had a Rottie that wouldnt hurt a fly... The only way that dog would do anything to anyone was if someone or something showed aggression towards my daughter or myself.... Other than that, your biggest concern with him was him lickin ya to death....LOL

Well, if you have a licence and all the legalities sorted out, you should really talk to your neighbours about this behaviour and ask them to please close the fence, or give you some form of viable guarantee that if you sustain any phsycial injuries from the dog - they will be responsible for everything legally. If they don't, then carrying your handgun should make you feel safer from the dog...from yourself - that's a different story.

Well from my experience...which wasn;t a good one... I had a black lab of all things.. that went psycho on me....I had put 4 shots from a .38 into his head and he didn;t stop coming, I figure it was all adrenniline in him.. but after hititng him 4 times i still got bit a couple times before my knife dropped him.. so yes a gun may help in most situations but don;t think it is the be all end all

people should be afraid of YOU.
Maybe they let their dogs out knowing their neighbor walks around at night with a loaded gun?
Call the police or animal control and report your neighbors animals. No one should let their animals roam around anywhere anytime of day like that.

u are more dangereous walking around with a loaded gun the those dogs off leash..first of all not every pitpull is bad or rottie. why dont you just tell your neighbour not to leave the dogs off leash ..it is illegal neways..if he or she doesnt want to collabrate you can call the police...but loose the gun..not necessary..u never know they say devil hangs around the loaded guns..what if you get very very upset at someone and you do sth stupid with that thing in your hand..please lose that stupid gun thats how innocent ppl die

Just to set things straight,

I own a pitbull and mine is a very friendly and nice dog. i know many people stereo type pitbulls that they are mean and stuff but its all on how you train them.

As for your question,

Go ahead, you dont need your gun because if that dog bites you you will get paid. i guarantee it, and you shouldnt have to carry protection around your own household.
