It isn't their technology that makes the difference. It's their commitment to quality. Every step from the design, through the marketing, sales and customer service is geared towards creating a great experience for the customer.

That means that their software must be not just easy to learn, but easy to use, or it doesn't see the light of day. Software and hardware must work seemlessly, as does iTunes and the iTunes Store with the iPod. Any new system that needs a consultant to 'properly configure' needs more work before it is ready for sale.

Apple computers are not marketed to IT technicians who want systems that need their expertise. They're marketed to ordinary people who don't have the time or the inclination to spend hours reading manuals in order to get the job done. Their stores are set up to let those users take their time evaluating the hardware and software.

No hardware is perfect, so when an Apple product has a problem you can be sure that it will be taken care of, and usually on the first try. If you check at places like http://www.macosxhints.com you can find people who have had systems repaired under warrantee even after the warrantee expired. I know I have.

The biggest difference between a Macintosh and a PC or an iPod and some other mp3 player is one word: Quality. That word, like 'service,' is overused in business, and in fact for many businesses, their use borders on fraud. It's a shame that most large businesses refuse to learn from Apple's example, preferring instead to run a race to the bottom selling cheap boxes and then making their profits on service calls.

In this month's issue of Business 2.0, there's an article regarding the ways to have a successful product launch. One of the companies mentioned is Apple, and what their methods are before a new product is developed. That would be good reading for you (it's only a few paragraphs, but it's one more reference for you!).

Because they aren't hung up on making profit alone like Microsoft.
Check the Apple site, it's always worth a visit.

Its probably because of its compact hard drive in such a small space combined with the click-wheel. Otherwise, its only a hit in America. In Asia they are struggling since everyone listens to music on their phone, etc.
