Unless your city offers complete city wide wireless internet service it can be pretty expensive. The built in wireless systems in laptops are only for short range. They can be used in some hotels, bookshops, and cofeeshops. Long range wireless using the cell network and is very exensive and requires a cell card. Just think how many minutes it would gobble up.

My area offers a system called Digital Path which uses radio waves. An antenna on the roof is connected to the ethernet port on the computer. It is fairly low speed compared to other broadband but is much much faster than dialup.

WildBlue's broadband service allows you to access the Internet at speedup connections. With a 2-way wireless connection via satellite, WildBlue's speed is maximized both ways.

Downloading a Web page that might take 21 seconds on a dial-up service will take less than 1 second with WildBlue Internet access. That's fast!

yes there is are 2 ways to do so....
one of these is using a router....it is a device that emits signals...u connect with the broadband cable....and u can start internet...on any pc or laptop that is wireless enabled...these days laptops do come with an inbuilt wireless device....
the second method is a better one and make internet enabled laptop portable....ur isp can provide u with a card....u just attach it to ur laptop and u can start ur internet...after u configure the ip address etc...
contact ur isp for this....
