Of course you can play the sims without cheating, you just have to make sure you quickly get yourself a job to make money, and as long as you have lots of stuff in your house that you like you should stay reasonably happy allowing you to take part in the different things that you need to do to gain skills to progress in your work and get pay rises.
If you are depressed all the time it can be a very hard game to play.

No, I can't. I have to use the 'motherlode' and load up on some money. I can't deal with things like jobs when I'm playing! I need to have a nice house and a bunch of stuff. So unlike real life, but I love it.

i beat the first sims on playstation 2 without codes....**** sucked it was like a real life my family was eating beans for a minute.

I kinda did a few families without cheating.and then when i got the expansions i couldnt help but cheat :)

oh its one of my favourite game....
well it is hard but you've got to be patient and you've got to keep trying...
i didnt cheat till i reached 3rd level (3rd promotion) and then too i pretty much knew what i need to do next... the thing is it gets difficult to make friends, keep your relationships going, be on work on time, catch up on cooking and music skills, entertain yourself, clean yourself etc all at once... hehe !! (just like real life)
