Assuming an extra person will tax space, privacy issues, add to utility costs, you might suggest a 4 way equal split and let them work out how, between themselves. Certainly you can't ethically add more in the way of splitting, than things actually cost, and there will always be imbalances in who used ho much, but if you all get along, your costs over all will drop. Example, if the Flat and utilities now cost 900 and your third is 300, then adding another will theoretically drop your share to 225, but the added person will add some costs to the utilities.

No offense, but I suspect some differences might pop up, as in opinions, sharing the sapce, time, bathroom, etc.

If it is a 3 bedroom flat and there are four of you in it they might argue that they are using only one room like the rest of you. In that case, she should (at the very least) split all of the utilities with you four ways and contribute to the groceries the same as the rest of you.

If it's a two bedroom flat and you are sharing with another roomate, then she should also pay an equal share of the rent. Make sure to talk to them before she moves in and you and your other roomate should be on the same page about this. Good luck!

Eeeeeyup. Unless she's not using any electricity / heat / water / garbage, etc. Then there's the issue of "Who's Got The Say Around Here" . The person in whose name the rent is collected ought to have the final say. Seems like girlfriend should pay her fair percentage for the roof and comforts under it.

Money aside, the other concern is how she affects the dynamics of the group. Will anybody be miserable with her living there?

Even a four-legged pet requires a deposit.

She should have to pay her share of the bills but not the rent. She is not taking a room, so maybe ask the guy to kick in an extra hundred or something but having him pay half the rent for one room is BS. Unless you want him to leave cause he can probably find a 1 bedroom for the half or your rent he would have to pay living with you.

All of the answers here I agree with. But.....allow your roommate or girlfriend to offer...BEFORE she moves in. If the offer is not made, then the arrangement will not last long anyway. If there is no offer then it is not someone you want to share with. Just explain having a female in the home is uncomfortable and they should move into a place of their own. If they offer BEFORE they move in, then have alittle get together making sure she is a welcomed personality into the group. And DO NOT allow her to do all the cleaning and cooking or that won't work out in the long run.

I would say yes. The girlfriend would have to share with all expenses involved with the rent, utilities, including phone, etc. Don't give her one day without paying, or she'll take advantage of the situation. Why should she have a free ride? She shouldn't!

I think the guy should pay. If you have an agreement amonst you, then take a vote. Confront him with this if you don't want the girlfriend there. If you don't mind her being there, I still think he should pay extra rent. Just my opinion.

Unless the man moving his girlfriend in is willing to cover for her, then yes. Talk with him about how you're going to arrange this, though: That way he can't claim he was caught by surprise.

Yes - either she pays 25%, or he pays 50% for the two of them.

Check your rental agreement - it probably permits short-term guests for a few weeks, but anything longer usually means you have 4 renters. It's possible that you have to notify your landlord of the 4th renter.

Of course, everything including utilities should now be divided 4 ways, and make sure she gives an equal share as a security deposit.
