If I search for my own website using keywords in Yahoo, it comes in around site number 1003 - how can I get it on the top ten?

The best way to increase your spot in a search engine is to make sure you link to lots of other sites AND, more importantly, lots of other sites link to yours. Yahoo! and Google and other search engines use web crawlers to find webpages, and the more connected your site is to other pages, the higher it rates you.

Sadly it's a bit "chicken & egg". You only get higher up a search engine's results by being a popular site to visit...
Go figure...

Everytime you post an answer/question, just put a link to your site. That'd start to build up points. I'd suggest pointing to a blog page, though. At least that would be acceptable to the turns for using the service, I believe.

pay attention to keywords, meta tags,seo,and post content. If you have a personalised yahoo page put links to your site on there and keep the content new and fresh.
Above all, be patient and don't part with cash to folks who reckon they can get you the number 1 spot in 13.5 seconds...
