you can try Lime wire....I know some people who have downloaded 100's of songs from there for free, and I have burned some to CD's. And they sound great.

Limewire is the best bet. I have personally downloaded over 1000 songs from there and never had a problem. Its free, because its a information sharing site. Go to www.limewire.com for installation instructions.

Limewire, but make sure you have a really good virus scanner and a firewall. Some people put stuff on there with viruses, but other than that you shouldn't have any problems.

For non-mainstream tastes, you can't beat emusic.com for commercial downloads - 25 cents a song (or less). Great for jazz, indie-rock etc., but lacking in mainstream big-label music.

My son always uses Ares. It works for him, he has downloaded about 400 songs.
