Believe it or not, Chinese herbal medicine. This was the only "alternative" medicine I have ever used and it worked wonders. I had late onset acne that was giving me trouble way into my 20's. I tried soaps, creams, cleansers, tetracycline, liquid nitrogen treatments. Nothing seemed to have a permanent effect.

When I was living in Japan I decided to try Chinese herbal medicine. I got it from an herbalist in my neighborhood. It worked exactly as he said it would. For 2 weeks nothing happened. On the 3rd week I noticed my bowel movements had increased. By the 5th week I noticed an improvement in my acne. 6 months later, my acne was gone and never came back. Apparently, this medicine worked by cleaning me out starting on the inside and working outward.

Since you are in England, you would need to go to a large Chinese supermarket or large Asian shopping center. There is sure to be an herbalist there.

Acne can be an internal issue directly related to the diet. Sugars, fats, toxic food and chemicals etc. Start there and list out what you eat regularly and check those products for their ingredients. Sum up the total weekly amount of sugars and fats etc you consume.
Eliminate sugar, Bleached/processed flour & most dairy as they contribute to the acne. lots of raw vegatables and friut is important to the diet. Sleep is essential: get plenty of it!
As for products the best on the market is Proactive Solution. It's pricey but it works.

My friend has been using Proactive for years and loves it. Most anything you get from a Dr. will dry your skin out painfully. I have never had luck with anything other than a bar of soap and hot water. Don't sleep in make-up and use as little liquid foundation as possible. It clogs your pores.

a normal person needs to drink alot of water and never touch your face except for a daily washing with mild soap. too much washing drys the skin and makes it worse. if genetically you are screwed then see a dermatologist for some tricyclene
stress is also known to cause acne so chill out
dont eat crap food; eat healthy

Tea Tree Oil.
Body Shop sell loads of different things with it in, just straight oil you put on with cotton wool balls, nose pore masks, blemish sticks, freshners.
They all work really well.
I can send you a brochure if you want so you can get the products at home, or just go in the shop direct!
