you need to go into your control panel and click on network connections and find the connection your using if its dial up it will be a modem if itd dsl or cable it will be a lan connection right click the icon and go to properties and make sure the box thats says show icon when im connected is checked and it will show up in lower right hand corner of task bar near the clock

hi there,im on windows xp & when im on the internet there is a little green triangle (or a symbol of sorts)in the bottom right of the screen it will usally bwe flashing as you surf or be lit up,just double click on it & it should tell u ur speed.hope this helps Dale]
ps im on tiscali broadband.

There may be a "Widget" you can get that look cool.

You can browse and may find something nicer.
