It was made illegal in the 30's because it was discovered how to process hemp more efficiently and economically than wood pulp for paper. Big money paper interests, like William R. Hearst, demonized marijuana and got pals in govt. to criminalize it.

It was briefly legalized during WW2 so that the US could reap the benefits of the many uses of hemp products: rope, fire hoses, harnesses on parachutes, etc.

All about a few people making money.

If you are suggesting it should be legal as are cigarettes and alcohol? Don't millions of people suffer the effects of both of these poisons?

Don't get me wrong , I smoked pot for 22 years or so, and I only quit because I have a wonderful son now and I wouldn't want to be in jail if I got caught. Wouldn't set a good example.

Bang your drum all you want about legalization, you'll only get a headache. It'll never happen.

It was legal until 1937. The Hearst papers ran a series of sensationalistic stories about how one puff turned people into maniacs, plus it was associated with Mexicans and black jazz musicians. So it was easy to tap into the inherent Moralism of the American people to get an unenforceable ban passed into law.

Well, it doesn't have PHYSICALLY addictive side effects, the addictive side effects are merely mental and are the same sort of addiction as liking a piece good food.

No one knows the answer to your question.

Yes No Yes Yes

However, I believe it should be legal at age 25 and manufactured commercially with THC levels held to a level which is moderate to avoid psychotic reactions in most people.

Marijuana is illegal because it makes people happy, no one can get rich off it (not when it can be cultivated at home), and in America that is very unpopular with the powers that be.

Nixon had it classified as a "Class A" narcotic, along with heroin and cocaine. Is that crazy or what?
