I work in the HR department at my work. We like to have a reference from your last employer and any other reference. We don't mind if they are foreign. However, it might be a good idea to include an e-mail address as this can really speed up the process, instead of relying on the post.

Maybe yes and maybe No- it all Depends on who you are applying for a job with....for example with the CIA working in headquarter Yes....OR with a Multi-National Corp.

Ask yourself how do you want yourself to be seen...if they give you good references and are an important part of your CV keep it..but ask yourself are they from countries GB doesn't have good relations with...It all about who is hiring, what type of company and what you deem important on your CV. YOU decide! Good luck.

It will help if foriegn references can be contacted by email. But foreign references are better than no references or lying about working in the UK.

I don't think so, aslong as the references are easily contactable. I think it shows extra skills, such as lifeskills, confidence to go and work in another country and the fact that you can work out of your comfort zone. Goodluck with the job search.

In Toronto, Canada foreign references are frowned upon as they want only "Canadian" listed!!

But elsewhere in Canada, foreign reference actually works great!!

So long as they are easily contactable, can speak English and are verifiable (ie not an anonymous email account you could be using) you should be ok.

Why should they. They might demonstrate your ability to adapt in a different country!
