If you have unprotected sex at any time you can get prego....just a better chance when you are ovulating

Yes, you can only get pregnant around the time you ovulate because in order to have a pregnancy, you must have an egg (ovulation) and a sperm cell that fertilizes it. The only issue is that every females body is different and some females don't know when they are ovulating. Most females ovulate about 14 days after the start of their period but this is not true for every female.

You have to ovulate in order for the egg to be released so that the sperm can fertilize it however with a good cervical mucus environment sperm can live up to ten days in fertile cervical mucus until ovulation does occur.

But to answer your question, yes. An egg (ovulation) and sperm and fertility are required to conceive.
