It really depends on when you start doing your "prep". Be home once you start the prep. I did start mine a couple of hours early so I could be in bed by midnight. I was in the bathroom off and on for 6-8 hours. I pooped about 24 times if that gives you any indications of how nearby a bathroom needs to be. Here are some other tips: get bathroom tissue with aloe for a softer wipe, baby wipes are good for better cleaning, might need tucks for hemorrhoid inflammation, I also used baby oil gel for the soothing effect. I was able to go to bed for the night at midnight. When I got up in the morning, I still had some mild cramping and used the bathroom a few more times. Once I thought I was done, I took a nice hot bath - it was the best one I have ever had! I felt so much better, then I was on my way for my colonoscopy. Are you doing the liquid prep or the pills - I used the pills - they were great! My colonoscopy was completed about 4:30 pm on the day I had mine, I went back to work the next day, but was still kind of groggy from the IV medications I was given. Looking back, I think I needed 24 hours to fully recover from the demerol and versed I was given. My next one will be on a Friday morning, so I will have the whole weekend to get back to normal. If you have anymore questions, please e-mail me at dfcoley@yahoo.com. I also have 2 places where you can watch free dvd's about a colonoscopy. Good luck!

If you work 9-5 I'd take off around 3 so you can eat dinner and, relax before the clense. I started my prep around 4 and, had my colonoscopy @ 7:30 the next morning. I'd set aside 7 hours to cleanse. It really does take a lot out of you. So be sure to relax and eat a healthy meal before hand.

You want to be as relaxed as possible so go ahead & take the day off . Don't be afraid of the test, it's embarrasing but it doesn't hurt at all. The prep is the worst part.

I guarantee you will want to take that day off as well. You will be literally running to the bathroom every few minutes and it could get quite embarrassing. I know a few people who did not make it in time. So yes I would stay home. I did.

Depends on the prep your Dr. ordered. I would leave work early.
He should have given you a schedule of when you start drinking what prep. Personally if it were me, I would start early, about 3pm, that way you are "squeaky clean" in time to get plenty of sleep.

You can be going for hours!

Yes. The prep is no fun and you need to be near a bathroom at all times.

YES! My husband was going to have to go in for that and they make you drink a solution that is going to make you stay in the restroom for HOURS.... So I would suggest that you do, ended up he didn't have to have it done the stuff he had to drink I cant think of what it is called, that helped his problem. But please think twice before going in to work.
