I have been using Palms for a while, which have 320x320 and 320x480 screens, but I'd like something which has a physically larger screen. I don't mind the resolution much, but the actualy size of the screen makes them hard to work with.

Note - I am wanting this to fit in my pocket! Which is about 12x17 cm, so accounting for the thickness of the PDA it would have to be no more than about 10.5 x 16 cm.

320x480 screens already being physically large for mmainstream PDAs (have a T3 so I know), the WM 5 device's VGA but did not physically enlarge the screen so ultimately I am in the same thought as you do; tablets are your only option.

But for those that took a hybrid approach of taking a PDA OS (instant-on types) to a tablet-large device you have to look to eBay since they are not mainstream devices, they have a resolution of usually VGA or SVGA with a physical size of around half of a printer paper or larger. I had one before. That was an obsolete Hitachi type, I just saw another listing of a German manufacture for a CE.net 4.1 device running 800x600 going for around $450.

First off, you guys don't know metric conversion. He wants one about 4" by 6".

If money is no object try a ultra personal computer...a bit bigger than a standard PDA, but still fits in a pocket, plus thy run standard windows. Get USB drives (thumb, CD, etc) and it can have any regular windows, linux, etc program.

If it is, Pocket PCs seem to all be 240 pixels wide, by 320 tall. The latest OS allows you to rotate the screen 90 degrees, so it would resemble a smaller version of a monitor.

Palms have the resolution you want. These are what I found: http://www.compusa.com/products/products.asp?N=200031&Ne=200000&Cn=PDAs_Palm_OS

[Palm TX Handheld, Palm LifeDrive Mobile Manager 4GB, and Palm Tungsten T3 Handheld]

The palm vs pocket pc preference it up to you. Personally I like pocket pc, becuase after using a regular pc it is easy to connect the two to share data.

I think that what you are looking for is more like a "tablet pc", not exactly a PDA, which ofcouse do not vary a lot, but will accomplish your resollution requierements.
