When I get upset or excited, my internal circuits go haywire. Silence is what I need to get a grip, take a walk or just completely blank everything out for a few minutes.

It's a good method, actually. There are all kinds of ways to deal with harsh situations. Yours is probably alot better than lashing out or yelly "Allah akbar" and hitting a detonator button and blowing yourself and a bunch of other innocent people up just because your angry.
I also hope you later go to the person or the situation and try to work through it when you have your emotions in check, because ignoring it will cause it to get out of hand again.

Actually, yes, I do listen to my music louder when I am really happy or excited about something. The same is true for the reverse, when I'm upset, I listen to my music louder to pay attention to the words and get things off my mind as to what is bothering me.

at work I take a few deep breaths so not to blow up in front of co-workers and/or clients (no music)
at home I just let myself revel in the moment then if possible try to avoid any confrontation by walking away from the problem, I'm part Irish and have a short temper.

No, I tend to confront the issues in the moment. If I am not quite sure how to deal I ponder somewhere quiet until I figure out what to do.

It depends - if I am driving and get upset at at idiot not driving properly - not staying in lane or one who cuts you off, or what's even worse is those who constantly switch lanes to annoy you! Then I crank up my radio and pass them up.
Otherwise, if I am at home and I am a little pissed, then I make a Margarita and head towards Margaritaville (LOL)
