There's a herbal remedy called 'FeverFew' that may be worth trying. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feverfew. I know it used to be available in the US but I'm sure if you Google it (sorry search Yahoo) you will find out.

Everybody's trigger is different. Mine is a sensitivity to bright light as well as an allergy to peanuts and fresh dairy cream. You should keep a food diary to pin point exactly what your triggers are so you can eliminate them from your diet. It sounds tedious but it really does pay off in the end. I went from 1 or 2 migraines a week down to 1 or 2 a year and the severity has decreased, i no longer get the garbled speech, numbness and bringing up of bile.
Once the migraine has already started i find the only things which really help are lying in a cold dark room with good ventilation and a cold cloth over your head trying to get some sleep. Instead of the cloth you can try these new migraine patch things to stick on your head which work well and are available from most drug stores/ chemists. I found in the worst moments that a couple of original anadin headache tablets (not all the new ibuprofen types etc) were the only tablets which would ease the pain in my head.

Good Luck.

I saw a documentary once about this mouth plate you used in your sleep. Kind of like the things you bite down on when having an x-ray at the dentist. Apparently they linked migraines a lot to clenching your teeth in your sleep. the people in the doc had crippling migraines that were interferring in them running a normal life, and it worked for them. Was great.
Personally when I have had migraines its sleep - have never used anything other than serious pain killers, but would like to know other remedies too.

For some treatment, aside from just lying back to bed, take some pain relievers just as usual as you do when you have the attack.
To PREVENT it, try to keep a diary of migraine triggers which you can present to a doctor should you cannot tolerate the pain anymore. Also try to get regular sleep, activity (immobility can trigger headache) and well balanced meals. be able to manage stress wisely and lastly, avoid smoking nor being a secondhand smoker.
Have you tried acupuncture? this will involve putting very thin needles into the skin at certain points on the body to produce energy flow along the body's meridians. This may help relax muscles and reduce headache pain.

im a fellow sufferer, and what a pain they are.

firstly, you need to work out what your triggers are, keep a diary, recording sleep and food an even weather. this way you might be able to see a pattern and therefore avoid the things that start them off.

once the dreaded pain starts, i honestly dont know of anything that can help in terms of herbal remedies. however i think dark room, bed and damp cloth on forehead and maybe back of neck can ease the pain enough to resume some normal activity.

im sorry im not much help, although i do understand what its like to be a migraine sufferer.

The first thing that might be of good help is to elimanate various food items from your diet. Keep records and don't eat certain foods for a period of a week or so....bread...seafoods...various vegetables....or even drinks...colas...etc. Migraines are often the result of food allergies. If this doesn't help, then you really need to consult a physician as there are a number of medical conditions that could be the problem and drugs are available to relieve the pain.

I do not get them any more. I would tend to put it down to dehydration, but drinking lots of water can make it come on.

Avoid alcohol in large amounts, avoid all fizzy drinks including keg beers and lagers and draught Guinness, avoid mixing Caembert with red wine.

It is an open question on cheese and chocolate. I would cut out all types of milk. I would also avoid Olbas oil for nose complaints and peppermint might be dodgy (or the last one may be coincidence).

Avoid dehydration, stress, red wine, chocolate, and exhaustion. All can cause headaches, which can develop into migraine in sufferers. Good luck, hope you find something that works for you.
