have u every tried acupressure? or acupuncture? Chinese medicine uses acupressure, and also acupuncture to not only relieve pain but to cure it. Most of the time they start with acupressure to push the pressure points in your body to stimulate endorphins to relieve the pain. after they do acupressure, if that does not work, they will use acupressure. I suggest you see your doctor about these alternative approaches.

I know exactly what your going thru. I had the same type of problems for years on and off, and then about 2 years ago it got really bad. I HIGHLY recommend you see a chiropractor. MOST doctors think Chiropractors are quacks, but trust me, they are not. They can help you greatly. Getting some professional massages also can help greatly. What is happening when you raise your arms, is that some nerves are getting pinched somewhere in your shoulder area along your spine. This will cause tingling, pins and needles feelings, etc. One other word of advice is to ask yourself how much stress you are having. The chiropractor and massages helped me, however, I found out in the process my high stress job was the real culprit to the cause of the pain. I switched jobs to a low stress job, and within a month, was feeling 100%. hope this helps!

yes, two actually - i got an gym inversion table from Teeter's Hangups (via the shopping channel) and hang on that - that decompresses the spine (you're getting mashed up there around the neck so that would help release it - also makes you taller, improves circulation - check out the testimonials of other people who have it). Also, check out bowtech.com - re Bowen Technique - this is the most marvelous treatment (am just taking a course in it and it has benefitted me no end) - basically it resets your nervous system to normal - treatment feels like not much is going on because it is not massage, it's more like a strumming of muscles (like a guitar) - your nerves start humming and resetting to normal - gives deep relaxation (surprised me as i always considered myself pretty relaxed ha ha) - the muscles will feel loose and movement etc improved.. lovely stuff! good luck! :)

Acupuncture, I have never tried it myself as suffer with a more manageable back pain that responds to exercises
But they work on the nerves to treat people and it sounds as though what you are suffering is related to nerves
Many have been treated for vaiouse symptoms and would swear by it - might be worth looking into.

whoa. calm down. shite physio = residual symptoms. you have a really stiff thoracic spine (between your shoulder blades), when you try to lift your arms above 90degs your thoracic spine should move. yours doesn't, and it increases the load on your nervous system, hence the numbness. you try to accomodate with the stiff back by poking your chin forward, (go see where you are going) which continually irritates the nerves which run from your neck into your arm. i bet if you look up it also increases your symptoms, as does slouching and pc use! lying down is the same as putting your head back. try rolling a towel up, as if you are heading to the beach, put it on the floor. put a pillow above the towel, and lie on your back with your head on the pillow and the towel between your shoulder blades (running down, not across your spine), bend your knee up and hang out for ten minutes. you'll be a bit stiff when you get up, but it will help. tell your shitey physio to treat your thoracic spine, push on the front of your neck, yes the front and get some exercise to improve your posture - no weird stuff. it's a postural vibe. all the other stuff (below, above not sure) will help, but you have not had the cause treated, only the symptoms. oh don't get a chiro to wallop your neck, yes maybe feel better for 2 hours, but the cause still remains and your back to see him tomorrow....what a rant! good luck
