I was just wondering what really is there to do to Furnace to continue servicing every year ?
Is a filter change monthly the truth behind it !!

you hire someone to do it once. you stand and watch what they do. the next year you do it yourself. they replace the filter which anybody can do. you look at it, if you can't see thru it you replace it. they also vacuum the jets where the gas comes out and you get dirt buildup. if something isn't working they will see it when they turn on the furnace. You can also turn it on and see if it works now. i saw a newer one that got dirt on a sensor and i had to have the guy come and clean it out. $75. there was some work being done in the house. Every few years have a pro look at it. if its real OLD then have it checked each year,

Is it a gas or oil fired furnace ? there is a big difference how each is serviced.

i work for a heating and cooling company and we clean and adjust filters and controls, lubricate motors, inspect safety devices and most importantly conduct an efficiency test so you know how well your furnace is working.

No, seriously.... sometimes they tune it up a bit and make it run more efficient.
