Like some others have advised it all depends on what exactly it is that you are asking and why. If one were to be doing research, moreover, information gathering is a better description on any related topic then of course one's answer would be an unequivocal no. There is nothing at all wrong with seeking information.
This process actually has a name: Empirical research is the process by which we gather info without scientific process or method. Basically that's fancy for what we see.
On the other hand, if one were looking to plagiarize (use another's work) or simply take the short cut, well that example is pretty obvious when it comes to morals and values. Seriously, it seems to me that if an individual is smart enough to utilize resources such as the Internet, then again to me, that same individual is certainly smart enough to find all the sources for their answers.

No, it's not cheating. It may be lazy to not be using your textbooks, but it's not cheating. However, I've found that about half of the answers given on Yahoo! Answers are WRONG. That's the real danger you face in using Yahoo to do your homework--Wrong Answers. Homework is NOT a test. Homework is an opportunity for students to study, research, look for the answers using whatever tools they know how to use, learn to use tools they've never used before. So using the internet for research is one of those tools. The problem with the internet is that there is so much wrong information out there. There is no control on who can post what. There is so much crap on the internet that the possibility of finding the WRONG answer is greater than the possibility of finding the RIGHT answer in many cases. I warn my students about that, but if they are willing to take the chance, then it is not cheating to do so.

I don't think it's cheating if the asker wants someone to explain how they arrive at the answer. To me, that's kind of like asking a parent or friend to help you with your homework. They shouldn't provide the answer, but they should help walk you through the process. Unfortunately, what I see here is just a problem with an answer provided by the answerer. To me, that is cheating no different that using a calculator when you aren't supposed to or looking at an answer key for the answer.

No, people ask questions about everything else.I think that you should look else where and use a forum like this as a last resort.

Yes. I refuse to help people who are trying to get out of reading books or doing assignments. It does not help them to give them the answers and it is definitely cheating.

Yeah it's cheating, but it's not very smart cheating.
How do you know when someone is giving you the right answer? But then I guess if they were smart enough to know that then they would be doing their OWN homework to begin with.

I do. But since there are so many foolish people out there, the chances of anything being really correct are slim.

IF THAT WOULD BE SO, THEN STUDYING THE MATERIAL BEFORE THE TEST WOULD ALSO BE CHEATING, THINK ABOUT IT. ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY SUBJECT IS HOW PEOPLE LEARN THINGS.
